Jude Dayton is an artist living in Baltimore, Maryland who works in watercolor, oil and acrylic. A self-taught artist, Jude has spent years studying and observing art of many cultures, especially European and early man. Jude has created a body of work inspired by stone-age paintings dating from 30,000 to 10,000 years before our time. Her mixed-media canvases are heavily textured and entail layering that takes many days to prepare and dry before painting. Among other showings, in 2002, she had a very successful one-woman, month-long exhibition of her cave art and other Primitif work at the French Embassy in Washington, DC. This was followed by another month-long showing at Alliance Francaise in D.C.

Other works by Jude include paintings of cats inspired by Picasso line drawings and paintings of both ancient and modern horses. Jude has incorporated many of her painting into a line of art pillows. Images of the original paintings are transferred onto canvas that is sewn into Dupiani silk, raw silk and ultra-suede pillows. Each image is numbered and signed by Jude. The pillows are jointly created by Jude and her daughter, Jane Eanes, a textile artist who designs the pillows and is responsible for hand-making the pillow covers.

Some of Jude’s original paintings are available for purchase and Jude does paintings on commission. In addition, Jude & Jane will design pillows from photographs especially for you (minimum order required).
